Old Trafford boss keen on San Siro star.
Manchester United will make an audacious attempt to sign Wesley Sneijder from Inter Milan in the summer. Even though the 26-year-old midfielder signed a new contract to remain at the San Siro until 2015 it has failed to deter Sir Alex Ferguson from pursuing the Holland star.
Fergie sees Sneijder as the ideal long-term replacement for Paul Scholes. Sneijder has returned to form for Inter since regaining full fitness, leading them into the Champions League quarter-finals. While he maintains he has no desire to quit Italy, close friends claim Sneijder’s head has been turned by United’s interest.
Inter president Massimo Moratti said: “The interest from Manchester United in Sneijder is real, but I didn’t look into it. My only interest is seeing Sneijder play here for many more years to come.” The one stumbling block could be a potential £40million fee and personal demands. Sneijder is earning around £140,000 a week.

It’s interesting that Inter Milan president Massimo Moratti would come out and confirm interest from Man United in one of their players as it clearly opens the door for more concrete moves for the talented Dutch international, if indeed the 26 year old is interested in a move to Old Trafford.
Given that life under Leonardo is seemingly far more harmonious than under Rafa Benitez, it seems that there is less incentive for Sneijder to leave the reigning Champions League holders, not least because under the Brazilian boss the Nerazzurri are once again a force to be reckoned with and very much back in the hunt for a sixth straight Serie A title.
Sir Alex Ferguson is reportedly looking to add more creative talents to his midfield, primarily goal scoring talents as the Premier League table toppers don’t have much in that department. Darren Fletcher, Anderson, Michael Carrick and Paul Scholes have managed just three goals in a combined total of 79 Premier League appearances.
The likes of Chelsea have Frank Lampard, Arsenal have Cesc Fabregas, Liverpool have Steven Gerrard and Tottenham have Rafael Van der Vaart, another player Ferguson is reportedly interested in. Whereas in his pomp Scholes used to weigh in with a dozen plus goals a season, he is now employed in a far deeper role.
